Boats, Music and Found Footage

We left Roseburg Thursday morning on route to the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington.

We took the scenic route. As it turns out...not all of Oregon is lush and green.

We discussed the term "angular guitars"; it refers to bands that sound like Fugazi...or possibly Stereolab.

We stopped at Stonehenge, located just across the Washington state line. The placards said it was built as a WWI (or possibly II) memorial. I can't say that I completely understand why you would build a cement recreation of a prehistoric stone monument from England to mourn dead soldiers from southern Washington State.

We stopped at a gas station and were surprised by the copious amounts of young people and cheap beer. Near the gas station was a shanty town of tents. We assumed that these were all people planning to attend the Sasquach festival as well.

It turns out this shanty town was not assembled for the music festival and was in fact set up for boat races scheduled for the following day.

We luckily decided against camping next to the camp site with a giant "BEER" banner.

We were awoken around 3 in the morning by a conversation that included the line "I like to read High Times for the articles".

The next morning we arrived at the Sasquatch campgrounds which were far larger but somehow seemed to be less...something.

The Blow (whom I have mentioned before) was pretty great, she had amusing story's to accompany her songs. I thought it was a nice spin on the singer/songwrighter + drum machine dancing-awkwardly genre.

Beer was $12 for a 16 ounce CAN of cheap domestic beer. thats 75 cents an ounce, we decided to stick with the free water.

Neko Case was good, there's not really much I can say. I think she played that one song...you know, that one that kind of sounds like that other one.

Electrelane (who were the focus of the of the earlier "angular guitar" discussion) were allot better live than they were on the album. A guy standing near me asked "what's the name of this band?" I told him "I think their called Stereolab", he thought this was much less hilarious than I did.

Ghostland Observatory was (insert expletive) awesome-tastic. We found out later that the lead singer is NOT a woman.

I think Grizzly bear was good. I'm not sure though because I was in line for the bathroom for 90% of the set.

I would be lying if I said that I didn't think the first song and the last song the Arcade Fire performed weren't the same song. I totally have a crush on one of the violin players though.

Bjork had a sweet laser show and was pretty awesome, despite her playing that awful song from her new album.

During the night I was not awoken by any drunken frat boys.

We decided against taking the scenic route home.

The un-scenic route is still pretty scenic.

During this Memorial day weekend; My Awesome Camera deleted three (3) different batches of photos, and I officially graduated from grad school.

I read a review of the newest Shrek movie. The reviewer said something to the effect of; "it was boring for the whole family".

This is a painting of a kitten and some butterfly's. This one time I had apainting that I got at a thrift store, it was an image of a waterfall, and I really liked it. It turns out it was actually a photograph...and it was moldy.

The awsomecam has been working less than perfectly. It turns on and seems to be taking un-psychedelic pictures but, it also deletes pictures at will.

Even though I can't think of anything to say about these, I do think they look neat so I'm not going to delete them.

When I took these pictures I was figuring that the camera would just delete them. Sothats my excuse for why there's no rhyme or reason to them.

I guess I don't really need a reason to take pictures of myself.

Obviously thats something everyone wants/needs to see.

I really need to get my act together, I have almost a months back log of photos. And, surprisingly, sometimes I don't remember why I took the picture in the first place.



I think I probably need an intern.

100th post

As I mentioned in my last post, my camera fell in the lake.

This is me looking cute/charming/handsome/expressive/playing the melodica.

This one is a sign that said something humorous/strange/offensive.

This one is me fishing/loosing lures/getting tangled/stuck in weeds/not catching fish.

This was a wild animal that was trying to attack me.

Not quite there

I have started making my own fishing lures. I looked for direction from my fishing instructor. He told me I would just have to wait until the class where we all learn together.

I think this WAS another lure or possibly another view of the same lure.

Maggie and I went to Oakland (Oakland, Oregon (also known as the cutest town in Oregon)) for a city wide yard sale. I got an olde timey razor and Maggie got some cookies.

I went with Lupita to the Ben Irving Reservoir. I thought Cooper Creek was big and scenic, Ben Irving is gigantic and has the scenery to match , and there aren't any mercury warnings posted.

I lost several lures...

...and got stuck in the mud numerous times.

I ended the day by dropping My Awsome Camera into the water. It turned back on (obviously) and now produces more stylized pictures.

Ride the white pony

This is a display of "Brats" (I think that's what they are) at the local library. I'm not sure if I hate this display more or less then the one with Beatles memorabilia.

Maybe I'm showing my disdain for the cultural displays at the library.

My phone and a travel mug? I'm sure I had a point to this.

I locked my keys in the trunk. I called AAA, they informed me that my plan allowed me four emergencies a year, and this would be number three.

I called the lock smith at 7:30 so I could be at work by 9 to prepare for a meeting at 10:30. The locksmith got here at 10:30. I helped remove my back seat, so I could reach my arm through a small hole and get the keys out of the trunk.

I was late to the meeting.

This truck had wheels that tilted and adjusted independently to their terrain.

I got lunch at the White Horse. These are the giant marble unicorns that stand in front.

I went back to Cooper Creek to do some fishing.

This hat doesn't actually fit that well. If I wear it comfortably it will fall off of my head. If I wear it so it will stay on it is mildly unpleasant.

This is a really big snake I saw. I think it was a python or maybe an anaconda.

I got a Coke at DQ. The guy working at the counter had a tattoo on his arm of the flag for the band Black Flag and a picture of Pac Man chasing the ghosts. All of this was connected with nautical stars.
